Wendy Mendes holds a PhD in urban geography from Simon Fraser University. Her research interests combine issues of local governance, policy and planning; social inclusion; sustainable development; and food policy. Dr. Mendes worked as a Social Planner for the City of Vancouver from 2001 to 2006, and taught at the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia. She is a member of the American Planning Association Food Systems Planning Steering Committee; the Canadian Association of Food Studies; Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Reference Group on the Healthy Food for All initiative; and past member of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Urban Agriculture Advisory Committee for UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum III.
