About Us

What we do

  1. CUHI offers seed grant funding to assist research projects that are in the development phase with preparing and submitting external grant proposals. Seeds grants fund pilot projects, literature reviews, and partnership building in CUHI's research areas of interest.
  2. CUHI staff provide support for research and grant development for project teams affiliated with CUHI’s Research Interest Groups.
  3. CUHI offers graduate student and postdoctoral fellowships to support the work of students and postdoctoral candidates whose research is affiliated with one of CUHI’s Research Interest Group projects.
  4. CUHI funds one community intern position each year.  This position provides an opportunity for a community member to learn skills in urban health research by being involved in the Centre's various research projects.
  5. Once a year, CUHI hosts a “priority setting workshop” where CUHI stakeholders have the opportunity to evaluate CUHI's activities, set CUHI's research agenda for the coming year, and connect with potential partner groups.
  6. CUHI offers special topic workshops, such as media training, and an urban health research seminar series on an on-going basis.

Stakeholder Groups

Our members reflect a diverse range of people working, researching, and concerned with urban health.  CUHI provides an exciting opportunity for people committed to improving urban health to work together, share ideas, and make changes for the better in urban communities.  Our stakeholder groups include: researchers, community organizations, policy makers and health practitioners.

Research Interest Groups

At CUHI, partnerships are built and research is carried out by Research Interest Groups.  Through our research, we learn more about the social and physical determinants of health in cities, build relationships with local communities, develop community-based research, and inform public policy.  Currently, CUHI has three activeResearch Interest Groups (RIGs): Urban Youth and the Social Determinants of Sexual Health (led by Dr. Sarah Flicker), Environmental Health Justice (co-led by Dr. Blake Poland and Cheryl Teelucksingh) and Socio-Ecological Strategies for Chronic Disease Prevention & Management (co-led by Drs. Wendy Young and Enza Gucciardi).
